Was Ancient China ever able to conquer India? Ancient China did not conquer India in the sense of establishing a lasting imperial rule over the Indian subcontinent. One notable historical event is the military campaign of the Chinese general Zhang Qian during the Han Dynasty (around 2nd century BCE). Zhang Qian was sent on a mission to establish alliances and explore regions to the west, including Central Asia and parts of India. While he didn’t conquer India, his expeditions contributed to greater contact between China and India.
Additionally, Chinese travelers, scholars, and traders, such as Xuanzang (also known as Hiuen Tsang), visited India during ancient times, contributing to the exchange of ideas and cultural diffusion between the two civilizations.
So, while there were interactions and occasional military expeditions, Ancient China did not establish a permanent conquest over India.
