Scout’s Notebook| Evaluating Group of Big 12 Prospects Live, Takeaways from the Draft Digest team following a gibing trip to estimate the sprinkle of NBA Draft prospects between TCU and Texas.
The Draft Digest team took on the Scholl Maier Arena formerly again in Fort Worth on Wednesday night to get a near look at the the cornucopia of future NBA gift on the Texas and TCU registries. TCU controlled the game from the launch and finished on top, winning by a final score of 75- 73. There were numerous future NBA bents that went head- to- head in the ranked conference showdown. Mike Miles( Guard| TCU)
It was another poor scoring night for Miles, who didn’t score at each in the first half. In fact, he went 0- of- 8 from the bottom and finished with just one point that came off of a technical foul free adventure. At times it appeared he was forcing the issue going right only going left to set up a ball screen to go back to the right. He’s shown the capability to score attacking upward both directions, but he strategy felt different in this game.
There’s no question Miles will be suitable to score well at the coming position, but he hasn’t shown it as much of late. He’s having kindly of a cold band, but don’t underestimate his long- term outlook. He tends to shine in the biggest moments, so anticipate some emotional performances down the stretch.
Emanuel Miller( Forward| TCU)
When we came to scout TCU live last week, Miller didn’t get his own report. still, after seeing the upperclassmen showcase his tools at a high position again in this game, he’s worth agitating.
With a great motor combined with good size and length, Miller has NBA strike. On the defensive end, he showed versatility in this competition, taking on bigger players in the makeup, but also spent time on guards like Tyrese Hunter. To make up for the lack of side quickness relative to some of the Texas guards, he showcased good footwork, positioning and Command to make up for it.
The 22- time-old depressed his alternate-straight double-double in this game, and was arguably the most poignant player on the night. He finished with 20 points and 10 boards, including four descent.
Dillon Mitchell( Forward| Texas)
Make no mistake, Mitchell has been one of the farther disappointing prospects this season relative to prospects. A top 10 virgin in his class entering this season, he hasn’t shown that he’s ready for the coming position.
The biggest concern with Mitchell is that he hasn’t been willing to expand his game to beyond the arc, as he still hasn’t tried a single 3- pointer this season. With that in mind, we tracked him inspire- game preludes and liked what we saw. His left- handed shirtdress is mainly fine and has a high release point. Each miss was drastically different, which would indicate he needs farther stability in his mechanics and release, but overall it’s smooth enough to at least warrant Mitchell to essay triumvirates in- game.
To make goods worse, he’s shooting lower than 50 from the free adventure line this season, which can be concerning for the long- term outlook of a prospect’s blasting. The 6- bottom- 8 freshman missed both of his attempts from the line against TCU.
Overall, Mitchell just didn’t make important of an impact in this contest, finishing with just two points and two boards. Other than an athletic put back immerse, there really wasn’t any other memorable moments in his performance.
Mitchell could really use another time at the council position, but given what he showed in high academe and how largely he was ranked, testing the pre- draft process would make sense because several armies would presumably take the trouble on him.
It feels like he’s still figuring the council game out. During utmost offensive goods, he simply floated or positioned himself in the corner. The swish players find ways to get open and demand the ball, which is commodity Mitchell hasn’t shown at Texas. His athleticism is fantastic and the defense is emotional. still, he’s fluently not a lottery pick at this point.
Arterio Morris( Guard| Texas)
He presumably won’t get important buzz this summer, but keep an eye on Morris in the 2024 NBA Draft cycle. He’s still working his way into the regular rotation as a Longhorn, and should be one of the farther promising returning players in the country coming time.
In this game specifically, Morris’ fluidity popped and he appeared truly confident. He’s smooth with the ball in his hands and gave good beats when he did take the bottom. In an increased part coming season, he should be set up to be a fast platform.
Tyrese Hunter( Guard| Texas)
The thing that sticks out about Hunter is his natural leadership and the capability to play at his own pace. During the points of the game in which TCU would gain instigation and the Longhorns looked flustered, he would be the one to brake goods down and ensure that instigation was put to a stop.
While he’s having an underwhelming season overall after the hot launch, the Iowa State transfer is still a solid prospect. He is small at 6- bottom- 1, and got bullied at times defensively by TCU’s bigger guards in this game, but has a strong frame that helps some.
The offensive power is what makes Hunter special, but he hasn’t made the vault this season that we anticipated. His numbers as a sophomore are similar to what he produced as a freshman. Hunter is a strong finisher with a smooth shirtdress that could still turn goods around ahead of the draft with a strong postseason. In the loss to TCU, he finished with 15 points on 50 blasting.
