At what point did Hitler realize the war against the Allies was lost? That’s not completely clear. There are reports he knew as early as 1943 still he went ahead full brume as if he was going to win the war at any moment. I suppose he knew it was doomed after Operation stronghold failed. This was a grand descent in the East with the thing of crushing a Soviet bulge in the frontline.

Hitler no way liked this operation but he believed that if he won, he may gain a strong enough position to negotiate with the USSR. The attack went inadequately- veritably inadequately. German losses were insane and this attack had played what little strength Germany had left. Hitler wouldn’t publically admit it but I believe he knew effects were doomed at this moment.

Hitler loudly blatted to Albert Speer that this was it, this was the collapse of the abettors Hitler had seen coming. He stated that with FDR dead, the US would change sides and Germany would be saved. also April 18th came and the US continued attacking. also the 19th, the 20th, the 21st, and eventually the 22nd. Hitler had preliminarily combined maltreated ineffective units with police units into these new “ Army Groups ”.

He ordered one similar Army group commanded by Obergruppenführer Felix Steiner to come to save Berlin. Eventually, on April 22nd Hitler was told that Steiner refused to attack. Hitler was quiet for a long moment, he also stood up and declared the war was lost. He ordered his registers to leave Germany and stated he’d stay in Berlin and kill himself.

Hitler more or less abandoned the war at this point. He spent the coming many weeks in the cellarage drinking and agitating the stylish way to kill himself. 8 days latterly on April 30th, Hitler killed himself.
