Who was called the most beautiful woman in ancient Greece? In the ancient Greece of her time, Helen was said to be the most beautiful woman in the given world. When it was time for her to marry, multitudinous Greek princes had come to seek her hand in marriage. Among the contenders were Odysseus Ajax the Great Diomedes, Idomeneus, and both Menelaus and Agamemnon. All but Odysseus brought multitudinous and rich gifts with them.
stewing that offending any of suitors would produce grounds for a quarrel, Tyndareus would neither accept any of the gifts nor shoot any of the suitors down. Feeling he could trust Odysseus, the only one who had not brought a gift, he would shared his enterprises with him.
Odysseus promised to break the problem for Tyndareus in exchange for the king’s help in his courting of the woman he wanted to marry Penelope, the son of Icarius.
A champion runner, Icarius, Tyndareus’s family, would not allow anyone to marry his son unless he could beat him in a race. Tyndareus knew Icarius tête- à- tête, for Icarius had been a former king of Sparta. Tyndareus agreed to help, and Odysseus went about working the king’s issue with Helen’s multitudinous suitors.
Odysseus put together an agreement known as “ the Pledge of Tyndareus ” an agreement that all would cover and defend, “ both presently and in the future, ” whichever suitor Tyndareus chose for his stepdaughter. After all the suitors had agreed to be bound by the pledge, the stark king chose Menelaus to be the husband of beautiful Helen. eventually, when Tyndareus stepped down from the throne, Menelaus would come king of Sparta.
Menelaus was said to have been a rough and brutal king — traits that he would inherited from his father, Atreus — and it was believed that his queen, Helen, “ had no love for him. ” Just a numerous times subsequently, a Trojan Napoleon, Paris, would come to abduct the beautiful queen, claiming that she had been promised to him by the goddess Aphrodite.
Some stories stated that Helen left with him willingly, because she had fallen in love with the Napoleon; others stated that it had not been her choice — that he would abducted her against her will. Anyhow, she had left the area of Sparta for good, leaving behind not only her husband, but also their nine- time-old son, Hermione.
After the kidnapping , Menelaus had used the same “ Pledge of Tyndareus ” to call on all of beautiful Helen’s former suitors, demanding that they “ fulfill their pledge, “ and it was their answer to this call that led to an alliance of the multitudinous Greek businesses that ultimately went to war against Troy.
